Porter: "Just The Tonic To Get That First Away Win"

Striker eyes League Cup upset against Championship 'Boro

Chris Porter says it was just the tonic to get that first away win of the season under our belts at Oldham at the weekend ahead of our a tough ask at Championship side Middlesbrough this evening in the Carabao Cup.

Crewe travel to the splendid Riverside Stadium tonight, aiming to upset the odds and record what would be one of our best results of the modern era in the League Cup.

Porter’s brace at his former club on Saturday got us up and running in League Two and the experienced striker, 35, says it was a great boost to get those three points after losing our opening game of the season to an impressive Plymouth Argyle side.

Ahead of our Carabao Cup tie, Porter said: "It was lovely to get two goals and it was massive to get the first win of the season, it was a great three points. It should have been a lot more than 2-1.

"The Oldham fans give me a lot of stick, I don't think they know the full story. I think if they did know the full story I don't think they'd give me the stick they do.

"The performance was very good aside from the first 10 minutes. However the reaction was very good to going behind.

"Our away performances we're really bad last season, we just weren't getting the results. I think we will improve on that this season.

Chris added: "We have got a target to try to hit before Christmas so this will contribute to that. And for self belief, especially for the young lads, when it goes a few games without a win people can start doubting themselves so it is massive for the squad and the confidence."
