David Artell admits that the players who came into the side against Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening have certainly given him food for thought ahead of this weekend’s home game against Walsall.
Artell gave opportunities to goalkeeper, Dave Richards, winger Owen Dale and midfielder Callum Ainley at the Riverside and they all played their part in helping us to a memorable victory in the end via pens.
Artell told crewealex.net: “There were different reasons behind the selection on Tuesday and it will be same tomorrow against Walsall.
“We rested Paul Green for the right reasons. Daniel Powell was ill and Dave Richards needed a game in goal. We tinkered a bit and we can do that with the squad we have. The ones who came in did well and that is what we need them to do. I’ve always said that we will need everyone and I would think that most of them will play some minutes somewhere along the line.
“One of the pleasing things about the performance on Tuesday was the ones that came into the side did well. The likes of Dale, Ainley and Trig (Dave Richards) all performed like they can.
“If there are changes to be made, then I will just be honest with them and explain the decision. There will be reasoning behind it and I will tell them exactly why. They will also know that they will get more game time because of what they did on Tuesday night. “
