David Artell says that his young left-back deserved his chance against the Villa.

David Artell has told the club’s official website that Rio Adebisi thoroughly deserved to make his full debut against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. Adebisi had an unforgettable night when first being up against Jota and then at times, the roaming Villa captain Jack Grealish.

The Premier League side went on to win the tie 6-1 but one of the real positives from the game was the performance of teenager Adebisi.

The Alex boss said: “Rio was terrific and he deserved his chance because he has worked hard in training and applied himself really well.

“I don’t think he was fazed in any way and he has shown that he has a bright future in the game.

“He wasn’t just thrown in. If we didn’t think he was ready, he wouldn’t have played. He is an athletic boy and has a lot of ability. He has to keep working hard and is heading in the right direction.”
