Artell: "I Want More Big Games Like That For This Club"

28 August 2019

David Artell has told the club’s official website that he wants to create more atmospheric nights at Gresty Road like we had last night against Premier League side Aston Villa.

Despite going down to a heavy 6-1 defeat to Dean Smith’s side, the Alex gave a real go and had 17 shots at goal in a good cup-tie until Villa’s third goal on the stroke of half-time killed it as a contest. It wasn't a 6-1 game but Villa showed their class with their clinical finishing punishing our mistakes.

There were a few ifs and buts in the game with Owen Dale and new loan signing Chuma Anene shooting wide from good positions and the Aston Villa stopper, Jed Steer, making good saves to deny Chris Porter and Charlie Kirk during our best spell in the game in that 20 minute period in the first half.

Artell told the club’s official website: “It was a great experience for everyone and I said to the players afterwards that I want more nights this at our ground.

“I told them that we only get them by being successful and being winners. We earned the chance to play a Premier League side in Aston Villa, because we were winners away at Middlesbrough.

“Now that could be in the league, a play-off semi-final, a big FA Cup tie or a EFL Trophy quarter-final, something really riding it on.That is what we want to create.

“I want these type of games, in these type of atmospheres for this club on a more regular basis.”
