Artell: "If A Good Player Came Up We Would Look To Sign Him Straight Away'

David Artell says that the transfer window is still very much open and that we are in the market for new recruits. The Alex boss has prioritised a new forward and possible versatile defender if the right player comes along.

Artell believes that the window may well become busier in the final couple of weeks with out-of-contract players scrambling around looking to get contracts.

The Crewe boss says that timing may play a part in any potential movement but he has reiterated that if the right player comes along at the right price, he wouldn’t hesitate.

He told the club’s official website: “There is still some time to go before the summer window closes but I have always said that if a good player came along then we would do it tomorrow.

“If he comes along at 4.59pm on deadline day then we would do our best to get it done then. That is how it is.

“If I think that a player will improve us and the deal was affordable then we would move. We have got some money in our back pocket. It’s not a great deal but I have said all summer that the market comes back to you in the end and it will because more players and their agents get more desperate.

“We got two in early and then the players going into late June and July became more expensive and we couldn’t compete in that market and then it comes back round again.

He added: “The market is still open and we will try and improve on what we have if we can and if we cannot I won’t spend money for the sake of it and accept what we have got.”
