Boss: "We Can Mix It Up But We Won't Be Whacking It"

8 August 2019

Alex boss David Artell believes that his Crewe Alexandra side are capable of mixing things up with the best of them in the division, but he is adamant that he won’t tolerate his players whacking it.

Artell says that after reviewing our opening game of the season against Plymouth Argyle he believes that his side should have looked to have played in the opposition half more than we did in the opening 20 minutes. Crewe found themselves 2-0 down after 27 minutes and were left chasing the game.

The Crewe boss stated to crewealex.net: “I don’t want us to whack it. I don’t want to be watching that and I don’t believe it is the right way for us to play, but I would like us to play more in the opposition half a lot more, especially in the opening 20 minutes that's for sure.

“We are not very good at whacking it. We can’t do it and the players know that I won’t tolerate it but there is nothing wrong with playing a longer pass and moving into the opposition half of the pitch. That’s just logical.

“We have spoken about imposing ourselves on the opposition and we continue to do the work on that but we won’t move away from what I think is the right way to play football.”
