David Artell believes that most football people ‘have a real soft spot for Middlesbrough’ but he wants his Crewe Alexandra side to visit the Riverside Stadium this evening and give a good account of ourselves.
The Alex boss says that ‘we’ll go and have a real go’ against our Championship hosts but he is a keen admirer of the club and how it is run by their owner Steve Gibson and the people there.
The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “Middlesbrough is a good football club, has good people and it is well run from top to bottom. I think most people have a soft spot for Middlesbrough in football because of the way it is run.
“I hope they do well but just after our game. It should be a great occasion in a big stadium. They are two leagues higher than us but it is up to us to go and show what we can do.
“We will look at their team-sheet when we get it and work out what they intend to do but ultimately it is about what we do.
He added: “It is a competition that we both want to progress in, so it doesn’t matter what team Jonathan (Woodgate) selects, they will be a tough opponent regardless.”
