Artell: "Credit The Lads They Came Through Again"

20 August 2019

Following our third successive league win, David Artell praised the fighting spirit of his Crewe Alexandra side as they fought back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at Crawley. Goals from midfielders, Ryan Wintle and Paul Green sealed a comeback from the Alex and the result sees us go top of the table at this early stage.

After a deserved 2-1 win , the Alex boss  told the club’s official website: “At one stage we thought it was going to be a re-run of November last year. We had enough chances to have scored three or four but found ourselves 1-0 down and we were stood there again thinking how are we 1-0 down !

“If it had been a boxing match they were out on the canvas but a lack of luck and us not being clinical again saw us behind but credit to the lads because they deserved the three points this evening I must say.

“They had a right go at the end, and threw everything at us but we have got men in our team. They dug in again and we got the three points again. That is what it is about and Crawley are a good side. They have some good players, they have been going pretty well and they will be fine this season.

“They have some good attacking players but I think in the first 20 minutes they had about 3 kicks of the football. We just need to be more ruthless.

“It is the second game running that we have won the game without our forwards scoring. It was a defender at the weekend and the two midfield lads this evening. That is what is needed. We need the goals to be shared about. The defenders need to chip in, the midfielders have to get more goals to help the front three and the other forwards who are not in the team.

“It is always a good sign when the goals are shared about.”
