Crewe: Jaaskelainen, Sass-Davies, Ray, Fenton, Adebisi, Johnson, Offord, Griffiths, Lynch, Bowery, Reilly
Goals: Ray (55), Reilly (61)
Crewe Alexandra Under 23's still have a hope of making the end of season play-offs after they closed out their season with a 2-0 victory at Colchester United last night.
Elsewhere, Bristol City beat Birmingham City 2-1, meaning the Alex will definitely contest the play-offs, if both the Blues & Burnley fail to win their final match. Burnley go to Charlton today (Tuesday), whilst Birmingham travel to Hull City on Friday.
It was second half goals from Club Captain George Ray & then Lewis Reilly that won the day for Alex Morris' side as they ended the regular season with four straight victories.
Colchester shaded the first half at the Jobserve Stadium, going close through Chilvers & Miller, but Crewe too had good chances to go ahead with Rio Adebisi & Jordan Bowery being denied on the line before goalkeeper Ross saved a point blank header from Reilly four minutes shy of the interval.
But Crewe did take the lead ten minutes into the second half, Ray rising highest to meet a free-kick & head into the corner of the net.
Just six minutes later on the 61 minute mark, it was two when the Alex broke away in midfield & Reilly was slipped in one-on-one to finish coolly past the keeper.
For the remainder of the contest, Crewe comfortably kept the U's at bay, with Sayer's 88th minute effort at the back post from a Miller cross the closest the home side came to finding a route back into the contest.
That's it as far as regular season matches go for Alex Morris' side, with all eyes now switching to the final Burnley & Birmingham games to see whether Crewe make the play-offs (top 2 only)
