David Artell believes that any slim hope of reaching the play-offs ended a while ago now but he still wants to end the season with back-to-back wins over Forest Green Rovers and away at Grimsby Town on the final game of the season.
Crewe remarkably still have a mathematical chance of finishing seventh if we can win both games and a remarkable sequence of results occur but it is highly unlikely. Artell would like to finish on 68 points and move up a few places in the table if possible.
Talking ahead of this weekend’s final home game against Forest Green, the boss said: “We would like to finish on 68 points and see where that can take us. The play-offs was a ship that sailed a while ago for me.
“I am sure when we look back and assess the season and dissect it, we will reflect on where we could have should have picked up more points.
“I think everyone can see the improvement we have made but ultimately we have fallen short. People can talk about one more win or the games at Crawley, Yeovil or Macclesfield but ultimately we haven’t got enough points.”
