Preview: Crewe Plot To Overcome In-Form Forest Green

26 April 2019

Crewe Alexandra take on Forest Green Rovers on Saturday in the final home game of the season at the Alexandra Stadium.

The Alex currently have the joint most home wins in the Sky Bet League Two this season with 14 from 22 matches - with Dave Artell keen to ensure his side end with 15 against Rovers.

But the visitors are the second best side on the road this season, amassing a huge 41 points from their 22 games on their travels. That form, coupled with their modest home showings has Forest Green comfortably secured in the play-off places & looking forward to the post-season schedule.

Rovers are actually now just three points shy of automatic promotion thanks to four wins on the bounce & following those above them's struggles over the Easter Weekend, so they'll be desperate for victory to push their unlikely feat into the final weekend of the campaign.

But Crewe too still have a flicker of an outsider hope of snatching the seventh & final play-off spot, four points behind with two games to go.

Win, lose or draw, the end of season awards presentation takes place immediately after the game in the Carlsberg Lounge. It's free for all supporters (first come first served) so be sure to stop by after the whistle. Click here for more info on the awards event.

Date: Saturday 27 April 2019

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Venue: Alexandra Stadium

Previous Meeting at Host Club: Crewe 3-1 Yeovil Town (Mar 2018)

Referee: TBC

Crewe: The Alex have won three games on the bounce, scoring seven & conceding just once - a dubious penalty at Swindon - but David Artell could make changes after admitting he wants to take a look at his fringe players ahead of next season.

Aaron Taylor-Sinclair continues to be monitored, but could be fit again after missing the last two, whilst Harry Pickering is unlikely to be risked for the remainder of the season.

Billy Sass-Davies could be set for a recall after sitting out the Easter Monday victory at Swindon & Will Jaaskelainen could retain his place in goal despite Ben Garratt eager for a return.

Forest Green: Rovers won the scrappy reverse fixture in December 1-0 & have been a real force to be reckoned with this season, ensuring that they will at least make the play-offs.

They have won four games in a row & boast strong momentum coming into these final games of the season.

Rovers could name an unchanged side after not picking up any injuries over the Easter Weekend, with Gavin Gunning & Christian Doidge netting the goals in the 2-1 Bank Holiday Monday win over Cambridge.
