Places Still To Be Had For Derby Clash

4 April 2019

First team coach Alex Morris says that training well could still sway the final decision on squad selection.

Alex Morris says that places are still very much up for grabs in Crewe Alexandra’s 18-man squad as we prepare for the highly anticipated local derby at Vale Park. Morris believes that most of the places would have been decided but following on from a 3-1 home defeat to Cheltenham Town last weekend and George Ray’s subsequent suspension there is still room for changes.

Morris told the club’s official website: “The incentive is there for the players and if they train well over the next two days then they could play their way into contention to start or at least get on the bench.

“You usually have seven, eight, or nine of the places sorted but when you have lost at home and one of your players is suspended then it gives others a chance to stake their claims. That is how we work and we always take how they perform in training during the week into consideration.

“The manager wants the coaching staff to have their input and it is great that he listens and takes your opinion on board. He then decides who warrants their place in the team. “
