One player who certainly grasped his chance against Notts County on Saturday was the recalled midfielder Tom Lowery.

The diminutive midfielder made only his second league start of the season. His energetic performance saw him named as the sponsors’ Man-of-the-Match award.

The veteran defender Nicky Hunt was impressed by the youngsters’ contribution from the centre of the park.

Nicky said: “It was good to see some of the younger ones given a chance on Saturday. Hopefully, they will continue to develop here, be sold on at some point and go on to have good careers in the game.

“Tommy has not started many games this season and I cannot remember the last one he did start before Saturday but we came into the team and was brilliant for us in there. We played some exceptional stuff going forward and he was instrumental in that for us with his passing.”
