Boss Hints At Changes In The Wake Of Port Vale Defeat

9 April 2019

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has hinted that he could make changes for the visit of Notts County this weekend. Following the hugely disappointing loss to Port Vale, Artell has stressed that only Ben Garratt is guaranteed his place against the Magpies this weekend.

Garratt made four stunning saves to keep Crewe in the contest at Vale Park but he was left helpless and unsighted with Tom Pope’s winner in the 78th minute.

Ahead of the visit of Notts County, the Alex boss said: “We have five big games left and we want to get as many points as we can and finish as high as we can. We want to show progress and the target is to try and break into that top half, the top ten.

“With fives to go there is not reason why we cannot do it but we cannot play like we did at Port Vale.

“After that performance I think there is only Ben Garratt who would think that he warrants a place in the team. I don’t think anyone could complain, other than Ben, if they were not in the team on Saturday.

“There may not be wholesale changes and I will pick a team to win the game. If they are not in the team this week then it will be on merit. If they are not in the team then they will have to do more to get in.”
