David Artell says that if everyone thinks Friday's game will be just like Notts County then think again. It will take the same level of work again.
David Artell says that his players will have to perform as well as we did against Notts County to make sure we get the job done against Yeovil on Friday. Crewe Alexandra ran out 3-0 winners against the strugglers Magpies and with Yeovil currently down there with them in the table, Artell says it will take a similar display to make sure it is us picking up the three points.
Crewe performed fantastically well against County and could have scored more than the three goals we did. Artell was pleased with the reaction of his players following those disappointing back-to-back defeats to Cheltenham and neighbours Port Vale. Those defeats ended our slim hopes of snatching a play-off spot.
Artell said: “I wish we could play as well as we did last week, win 3-0 and keep a clean-sheet every week but professional football is not like that.
“Like I said after the Notts County game, we owed the fans a performance and a result after what happened against Port Vale and they produced one.
“Forget about the perceived strength of the opposition and all that. You can only beat what is in front of you and we played really well. We passed the ball well, were ruthless and thoroughly deserved to win.
“If people think that Friday will be similar because of Yeovil’s league position then get ready. It is foolish to think that. I said to the players that you can enjoy the last five or ten minutes of games if you are comfortable and you only become comfortable by the work you have previously done over the 80 other minutes.
“It is not very often that a game is done and dusted. It is not now football usually works and you have to work hard for your rewards.
“If we are not at it then it could become a really tough test for us on Friday”
