"Tom Has Had The Sort Of Impact We Have Been Crying Out For From Him"

24 April 2019

David Artell says that Tom Lowery has to continue to contribute goals and assists if he wants to cement a place in the Crewe Alexandra first-team next season. Lowery has returned to the Crewe starting line-up for our last three games and he has excelled as the club recorded three successive victories over Notts County, Yeovil and Swindon.

Lowery, scored his first senior goal against Yeovil in a 2-0 win at Gresty Road and then on the Monday, he created both goals for Chris Porter as we ran out deserved 2-1 winners at Swindon.

The Crewe boss says that the Holmes Chapel based midfielder has to continue being a potential match winner for us.

The Crewe boss said: “We always say that any player has to do one of three things, stop goals, create goals or score goals. If you can do two of those things well then you are going to have a good career at a good level.

“In the last two games, Tom has scored one and created two. He has shown that he has it in him. We said to him that he had gone far too long without scoring a goal and he gets in the six yard f his tap in against Yeovil and he is the box again twice against Swindon rolling the ball across for Chris to score his goals.

“That’s it. That is what we need him to do and he understands that he has to bring more. He cannot just be a tidy midfielder, who retains possession and I am sure he will go on and have the sort of impact he has had in the last two games more often.”
