David Artell said that the travelling Alex fans had every right to boo him and his team at Vale Park on Saturday after what he described as ‘one of the worst performances of his managerial career.’ Crewe Alexandra only lost 1-0 to the Valiants, with our former striker, Tom Pope, scoring the only goal of the game.
Crewe could have been beaten by a bigger margin but for the heroics of goalkeeper, Ben Garratt, on the day. The Crewe number one kept us in the game with a string of top class saves.
Artell explained to the club’s official website: “The fans were terrific for us again at Vale Park and if they had booed us all at the end then they would have had every right to. We didn’t perform on the day it is a simple as that.
“They would have every right to complain and be negative towards us, but they weren’t and I am grateful to them for that. They were well within their rights to after that but they were great to us.
“I think I am always honest and up front with them and I don’t try to gloss things over. If we play well I said so and if we are dross then I will say that as well. I cannot kid our fans on anyway as they are a knowledgeable group.”
