U18 Report & Goals: Crewe 2-2 Sheffield Wednesday

27 September 2018

Crewe Alexandra Under 18's fought from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday at Reaseheath in what was described by the academy coaching staff as 'the best performance for years.'

U18 Manager Lee Bell & Assistant Michael Jackson were left purring after their sides' display, despite finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time.

The first Owls goal came from close range after a low cross from the right was turned in at the back post.

Despite Crewe playing well & creating a lot of chances, the visitors doubled their lead when a dinked cross from the left was knocked down by a Wednesday striker to his strike-partner to take a touch & smash home from eight yards.

But Crewe didn't give up. They continued to play sparkling football & were rewarded with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Substitute Malachi Linton turned home Abdul Djalo's low cross from the right from close range for 2-1.

The rewards the Crewe Alex play deserved paid dividends with the very last kick off the game - and it came from the penalty spot.

Linton was adjudged to have been pulled down in the area as Crewe floated in a last gasp corner-kick, & the striker picked himself up to send the keeper the wrong way, grab his second of the match & ensure the Alex picked up a point.

Next up for the Under 18s is a home clash with Colchester United at Reaseheath on Saturday.

Crewe: Booth, Goodrich, Woodthorpe, Djalo, Southern, Fenton (Heath, 50), Green (Odipe, 58), Hartshorn, Stubbs (Linton, 50), Onyeka, Priestman
