Artell: "Tranmere Tie Has Come At Ideal Time For Us"

3 September 2018

With our home game against Mansfield Town postponed at the weekend due to the International weekend, manager David Artell says that our Checkatrade Trophy tie away at Tranmere Rovers has come at an ideal time.

The Crewe boss wants his side to alter their fortunes on the road.

The Railwaymen have had real contrasting results at home and away this season. We have collected no wins on the road and haven’t found the net on our travels - but we remain unbeaten at home, scoring nine goals and conceding none.

Artell wants to see an improvement in cup competitions and says that a chance to win silverware at Wembley Stadium is what everyone connected to football should aspire to.

The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “The Tranmere game has come at a good time for us. We do not have a game on Saturday, so whichever way we go with who players, it gives us time to recover.

“I could name the same team or I could give some others some game time, but whatever I choose to do, we have ten days to prepare for Cheltenham. It is certainly different if we had three games in eight days, rather than three games in 15 days.

“It is another local game for us and we want to do well in the competition. It is a chance to lift some silverware at Wembley and that is what we all aspire to do in the game.

He added: “Where you agree with the Under23s being in it or not, it is a chance to get to Wembley and you just have to get on with it. It is what it is and hopefully our fans will come and get behind the team.”
