Jordan Can Be Right Up There In Terms Of Goals

4 September 2018

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that Jordan Bowery has the scope to continue to improve as a centre-forward.

Bowery was Crewe’s match winner at the weekend, scoring two excellently taken headers in our 3-0 win over our Cheshire rivals Macclesfield and Artell heaped praise on the former Chesterfield and Aston Villa man following his outstanding contribution.

The two goals were Bowery’s first of the season, but the Crewe boss believes that the 27-year-old has the potential to be right up there in the goalscoring charts this season.

Ahead of our Football League Trophy tie at Tranmere, Artell said: “Jordan has to understand his strengths more and what makes him effective. He did that on Saturday and we saw the impact he made.

“It is about saying here I am today and I am going to win my battles. You may whack me but I will just get back and come at you again. He does that more often than not but he has to do even more.

“He has to win his headers on the half way line and get hold of it. Those little details matter when a scout or opposition manager is watching you. When you continue to win headers and have the better of your opposite number, it changes their state of mind. It changes the state of your team-mates, who will continue to run in behind because they expect you to win it.

“There are far worse target men than Jordan makes a handsome living from the game. He showed on Saturday how he could be. He dominated two centre-halves, who were just as tall as him and was the match winner.”
