Jonah: "Nice to Break That Away Spell"

7 September 2018

Alex midfielder James Jones says it was nice to finally win our first away game of the season at Tranmere.

Typically Crewe Alexandra had to do it the hard way, when trailing 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining at Prenton Park - but goals from Chris Porter, Alex Nicholls and Jones himself resulted in a remarkable comeback in the Checkatade Trophy.

Jones is now hoping that we can follow up that away success with another win at Cheltenham on 15th September.

Jonah, who has now hit three goals this season, told us: “Yeah, it was good to win away. Some people were saying that we couldn’t win away, so it was nice to break that spell at Tranmere.

“It wasn’t one of our best performances but we managed to turn it around and I thought we deserved it in the end. It is now back-to-back wins, so hopefully we can build some momentum and build on that for Cheltenham.

“We have shown that we are capable of winning away and we have to take the positives from what happened on Tuesday night.

Jonah added: “It is always nice to get on the scoresheet, especially when it comes in the closing minutes and is the winner. The most important thing was getting the win and now we have to go again after the break.”
