Boss Wary Of Pope & Miller Combination

21 September 2018

David Artell says that with their impressive goal records, any club in League Two will be have to be aware of the threat provided by the Port Vale front two of Tom Pope and Ricky Miller.

Crewe face the Valiants at Gresty Road tomorrow and Artell says that his defence will have to be at their best to keep those two quiet and to protect our record of not conceding a goal at home in League Two this season.

David told the club’s official website: “I’m sure Port Vale will play what works for them. If they want to play a more technical game under Neil (Aspin) or go more direct, it is up to us to stand up to that.

“We have to make sure we play our football.

“Tom and Ricky have scored a hatful of goals. Ricky scored goals for fun at Dover and Port Vale believe they can get the best out him.

“They are goalscorers and any team has to be mindful of that.

“I’m sure Neil will be saying the same thing about our strikers. We have four experienced forwards, who have all scored goals at this level and Lewis Reilly, who scored twice against Port Vale last season on his debut.

“Neil will be just as wary as I am about the forward players on the pitch.”
