Boss: "Striker Dilemma Is A Great Problem To Have"

12 September 2018

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says it is a nice dilemma to have when it comes to selecting in-form strikers. The Crewe boss has a decision to make for this weekend’s trip to Cheltenham Town following a flurry of goals in our last two games.

Chris Porter scored twice and Alex Nicholls once in the club’s last outing against Tranmere in the Checkatrade Trophy. In the preceding league fixture against Macclesfield Town, Jordan Bowery scored twice in a 3-0 win. Meanwhile, Shaun n Miller has started the last three games.

Artell says that the fiercely competitive competition for places in his starting XI is only healthy as Crewe aim to climb the League Two table.

The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “It is a nice problem to have. Chris and Alex were terrific against Tranmere. They both got on the scoresheet for us and they led by example. It wasn’t only the goals they scored but their all-round game. Their link up and hold up play, their work ethic…

“Before the Tranmere game, Jordan was terrific and he scored two goals against Macclesfield. He had a breather at Tranmere and as manager you want those coming into the team to perform like Chris and Alex did.

“It is terrific for us. It is probably a bit unusual for Crewe. Maybe we have not had that over the last few years. The team could almost pick itself but now there is real competition for places.

“Can I get all three of them in the team? You will find out when the team-sheet comes out.”
