Artell Welcomes Striker Competition For Places

14 September 2018

David Artell admits he is not against starting with ‘two big ones’ up front for our trip to Whaddon Road this weekend. The Alex boss has a nice selection headache with strikers, Jordan Bowery, Chris Porter and Alex Nicholls recently on the scoresheet and Shaun Miller starting the last three matches. With Lewis Reilly also doing well for the Under-23s, Artell is blessed with options up front.

Ahead of this weekend’s away game at Cheltenham, the Crewe boss told us: “It is a nice problem to have. Long may it continue.

“Jordan scored two against Macclesfield and Chris and Alex were on target against Tranmere, so it is a nice headache to have.

“Could I play the two big ones together? I don’t see any reason why not. They are both good strikers. Will I be doing that this weekend? We’ll have to see.

“They haven’t had that much of a chance to play together. Last pre-season when Chris came in, Jordan was out with his hernia, so we couldn’t pair them together in the pre-season games.

The boss added: “This summer we have been able to do that. They haven’t been able to do that in a league game yet, but it doesn’t mean I won’t. “
