David Artell was delighted that his Crewe Alexandra side returned to winning ways with a deserved 3-0 win over our Cheshire neighbours Macclesfield Town. Two goals from Jordan Bowery and a wonderful solo goal from Charlie Kirk made it a fairly comfortable afternoon once again at the Alexandra Stadium and Artell was just as pleased that we managed to stand up to Macclesfield’s aerial presence and kept a clean-sheet. Crewe have not conceded a goal at home so far this season in the league.
Following the 3-0 win, the Crewe boss told the club’s official website: “We thoroughly deserved the victory today and although they changed their shape in the second half and made things more difficult we stood up to that really well and scored an excellent goal on the counter attack to make it 3-0.
“I thought we actually played better at Carlisle over the 90 minutes, but we have continued to create chances and have managed to be more clinical today. We now have to transfer that into an away performance.
“We haven’t conceded a goal at home yet and that has to continue.
“I think Jordan lost one header all afternoon and Ryan Wintle has kept their danger man quiet.
“We have been hyper critical of the fellas but we have transfer our home form into the away performances and make sure we score some goals and win some games. That will take the pressure off our home games if we can do that.
“I was pleased with them. They did their jobs. That is what I asked of them and they have don’t it. Win your battles, win your headers, tuck in and help your mate out, all that stuff adds up and it brings a result.
He added: “We have a cup game on Tuesday and I don’t know if Mickey Mellon will change it around but I don’t care, it will be about what we do.”
