Ports Deserves His 12-Month Extension

26 October 2018

David Artell says that veteran striker, Chris Porter, fully deserves his 12-month contract extension after making 50 appearances for the club in a relatively short space of time.

Porter’s involvement at first team level over the last 18 months has quickly seen a clause triggered in his contract and the Crewe Alexandra boss is pleased to have the vastly experienced forward with us for an extra season.

Porter made his 50th appearance at Stevenage last weekend and Artell says that the experience the former Derby County, Sheffield United and Colchester United man offers the younger players at the club is priceless.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “Chris had a clause in his contract when he signed for us that would give him that extra year if he played 50 games. It was a decisive factor in him choosing us over some other options but he had to earn it.

“He had to play the games and he has worked hard for that. He will probably play around 80 games over two seasons, so he deserves that extension.

He added: “I am delighted to have him for an extra year. He is a really good pro and that is why I signed him. I want him to pass on what he has learnt during his career to our younger players and continue to score goals in the first team. “
