Lunt Previews Swindon Challenge

2 October 2018

Crewe Alexandra assistant manager Kenny Lunt believes that we will have to stand up to Swindon Town’s physicality if we are going to get back on track this evening.

The Railwaymen go into tonight’s game against Phil Brown’s Swindon Town side on the back of three straight defeats in all competitions, but Lunt says that Saturday’s performance against Notts County on Saturday was a major step in the right direction as we controlled large periods of the game with our ball retention.

Lunt was as disappointed as anyone that our possession didn’t result in creativity and chances in the final third of the pitch, but the club’s assistant wants us to take that confidence on the ball into tonight’s fixture.

Ahead of the visit of the 9th placed Robins, Lunt told us: “Swindon are a big, strong team and we will have to stand up to their physicality.

“We have players, experienced enough to handle that and if we can then it is up to us to make sure our football causes them some problems.

“I am sure we won’t dominate the 90 minutes, no team ever does and when the opposition have their spell, it is important to stand firm and stand up to that. We never quite got there at Notts County and they scored their second goal during that period.

“We haven’t won for three games, so hopefully we can get a result against Swindon. We will remind the players that they are a much better team when they pass the ball and if we can get that final through ball or cross right then we will cause them some problems.”
