Crewe Alexandra boss, David Artell, has stated that his centre-halves, George Ray and Perry Ng have been our two most consistent performers this season and they have helped formed a solid foundation at the back.
Crewe have only conceded one league goal at home so far this season and Colchester United aside, we have narrowly lost by a one goal margin on the road in all our other games on our travels.
Ahead of our home game against Bury this weekend, Artell told crewealex.net: “The two centre-halves have done well for us this season. They have been our two most consistent players and that has helped us improve our goals against column.
“It is something we have focussed on since I took over because this club has conceded far too many goals for many years. If we can concede fewer than 50 goals then that gives you a great chance.
“We have made it difficult for the opposition to break us down and it has worked well, other than at Colchester. In the last two away games, we have conceded three goals and they have all come from midfield players running off our midfield players. That needs to improve because it cost us.
“We have got to get the balance right and score goals at the other end because being hard to beat gives you a chance in every game.
The boss added: “The back four and the work those ahead of them are doing provide a solid foundation, but we know we can be a bit better at both ends as well.”
