Artell: "The Challenge For Them Is To Become Even More Influential"

12 October 2018

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says there is more to come from the club’s talented youngsters, Callum Ainley, James Jones and Charlie Kirk.

The Alex boss has challenged the attack-minded, former Academy graduates, to score and create more goals and become more influential in games.

Artell believes that Ainley, Kirk and Jones have to become potential match winners on a more regular basis if we are to have a successful season.

So far this season, Kirk and Jones have scored three goals and Ainley has surprisingly not got off the mark yet.

David told the club’s official website: “The three lads know they have all the assets to be creating and scoring more goals for us. The challenge is for them to do on a more regular basis.

“They are not finding their feet anymore. They have played a lot of games now and they know what is expected. We want them to be more influential in the games.

“Jonah has scored three goals, two of those came on the opening day of the season. Charlie has three, he could have had six or seven. Callum hasn’t scored yet but he will. They all get in some great positions.

The boss added: “They are good players and they are doing fine but I know there is more to come from them. They know the roles they have and they know they can be more effective.”
