Ainley Is Very Capable Of Being The Match Winner

19 October 2018

Can talented Callum celebrate his 100th league appearance with a match winning display at Stevenage?

David Artell has hailed the possibility of Callum Ainley making his 100th league appearance at Stevenage this weekend as a great achievement for a 20-year-old.

The Crewe Alexandra boss feels Ainley will continue to develop and that his next challenge will be to become more effective in terms of assists and goals.

Talking ahead of Ainley’s potential milestone at a young age, David told us: “To make 100 appearances before his 21st birthday is a fantastic achievement. It takes some doing and if he can get to 20 goals and add 15 assists by his 150th then we would have top drawer players on our hands because we all know the ability he has.

“He has to become more effective in the final third. We all know he is capable of it because he did that for a large part of last season.

“Perhaps he is trying too hard. He is a deep thinker and I like that about him but you can over analyse things sometimes. We have looked to simplify some of his game and give him clarity of thought.

The boss added: “Once he gets there, he will be a great success and will know how to grab a match by the scruff of the neck and have a greater influence on it.”
