Boss Aiming To Remain In Touching Distance Of Pack With Positive Christmas Run

27 November 2018

David Artell has told the club’s official website that if the Alex can be handily placed in mid-table in January they can yet mount a charge towards the play-offs. That is the challenge he is laying down to his players as we enter a busy period of fixtures over the festive and New Year period.

The Crewe boss is hoping for a positive reaction this evening against Cambridge United after wasting a number of good chances against Crawley on Saturday. The Alex should have won but ended up losing 3-0.

Ahead of the U’s visit at Gresty Road, the Alex boss told us: “If you can be there or thereabouts going into January then you have a chance. We have done it at this club before when we were promoted and we finished strongly last season.

“We were 3rd in the form table after a great run in our last 15 games but we had given ourselves too much to do. We gave ourselves too much ground to make up. We were too far adrift points wise but it showed it could be done.

“If we can put a run together from now until early January and be mid-table, so say 13th, 14th then you have a chance. You have to stay in touching distance.

“The performances by and large have been good but we haven’t had the results to match. That has been the real disappointment but if we can get on a run, we have the players here to do it. If you can do it then you can go from 14th to 7th pretty quickly because the league is still fairly tight.”
