Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that forward Chris Porter was taken off as a pre-caution after his knee swelled up during the half-time interval.
The experienced Porter was willing to carry on for the cause as we looked to break the deadlock against Carlisle United but Artell admits that a change was also needed to freshen things up in the final third.
Porter is expected to train today and make himself available for selection for tomorrow night’s Checkatrade Trophy tie against Shrewsbury Town.
David told crewealex.net: “Chris had ice on his knee at half-time because it was slightly swelling up, so I took him off as a precaution.
“Chris said he was fine and that he could carry on because that is him but I didn’t want him to aggravate it more and him being ruled out for a long time.
“It was also a time in the game that was worth a change. It was worth trying something different up but the primary reason was precautionary and making sure he didn’t make it worse.
He added: “I’m sure Chris will be fine.”
