"Charlie Has Such Outrageous Skill That He Scared Newcomer"

22 November 2018

David Artell has praised tribute to the club’s Academy staff for the recent good goalscoring form of Charlie Kirk.

Kirk side-footed home his fifth goal of the season and his 9th goal since March to help us beat Tranmere Rovers 3-2 at Gresty Road last weekend and the Crewe boss says that the extra maturity he is showing both on and off the pitch is only making him a more influential player for the Alex.

David told crewealex.net: “Charlie’s goal record since March is very good for a winger. He has certainly added that aspect to his game and there is more to come from him.

“It isn’t a fluke, it is hard work from him and from those in the Academy who have honed his skills over many, many, many years. He has always scored goals and he has just had to take that into the first team.

“He has matured considerably both on and off the pitch and that is testimony to him. He has settled down at this time in his life and the fans don’t get to see that. He is becoming more effective on the pitch and is becoming a really good level.

“He still has a bit to do, he has to be better with the contact side of the game and know he is going to be targeted a bit because of his talent. That is part of the game, especially when you are a winger and can win the game with your ability.

“There is still some development there, but if he keeps going the way he is, then we have a right player on our hands.

“I spoke to a senior player the other day and he told that Charlie scared him when he first came here because of how good he was in training. He has outrageous skill and he is working really hard to become even better.”
