Finney: "Shrewsbury Win Will Help Us Get Over FA Cup Exit"

13 November 2018

Crewe Alexandra midfielder Oli Finney says tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy showdown with Shrewsbury Town is the perfect way to get over Saturday’s hugely disappointing defeat in the FA Cup.

The Alex exited the competition to Carlisle United when a late clearance from goalkeeper Ben Garratt was deflected off the onrushing Jamie Devitt and into the Crewe net.

Finney started his first FA Cup tie but was replaced in the second half by Callum Ainley and he admits that the dressing room was devastated to suffer that late defeat.

Oli told iFollow the Alex: “It was devastating to lose like we did. We didn’t deserve it because I thought we had some chances but I didn’t think we played as well as we can either.

“We expected to win, especially at home where we have done so well, so everyone was really down afterwards in the dressing room. It was gutting for everyone and we didn’t have any luck whatsoever.

“Now, we have to move on and turn it around against Shrewsbury and then take that into the league on Saturday.

“We want to win against Shrewsbury and get through to the knockout stages. It is every players’ dream to play at Wembley and that is the reward if you can get to the final.

Oli added: “We have had some difficult results to take after a decent little run, so it’s up to us to kick on and get a bit form going again.”
