David Artell was left hugely frustrated after his Crewe Alexandra side exited the FA Cup in a cruel fashion after Jamie Devitt closed down a late clearance from Ben Garratt to send Carlisle United into round two.
It was so harsh on Crewe Alexandra, who had certainly done enough to earn at least a replay for their efforts.
After the harsh 1-0 defeat, Artell told the club’s official website: “I don’t think we deserved it, we were the better team throughout.
“They were restricted to long range shots and a very dubious penalty. The amount of times we got the ball around the box in the second half and not pulled the trigger, or not put the ball where we’ve practiced was frighteningly high.
“We didn’t deserve what just happened but that is football. We controlled the game for long periods but if you don’t take your chances, then make a catastrophic mistake, you get what you deserved.
"Football is not always fair. We have worked all week on things and got into positions we practiced but they are all the ifs and buts.
“It should have been a comfortable victory but it turns into a disastrous 1-0 defeat. We had plenty of chances to score goals. Taking them is a different manner.
"It is the results that matter. There was a lot of money riding on it as well and we should have won it. We will keep working at it.
"We looked far better in possession and all the front four had chances. We created chances but we have to grasp the nettle more.”
