David Artell says he received an email from the Crawley Town boss Gabriele Cioffi that was complimentary about Crewe Alexandra’s performance against his side on Saturday. Crewe Alexandra were somehow on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat after creating a host of really good chances in the game.
Crewe failed to take them and those missed opportunities came back to haunt us as the Red Devils scored twice in the final 10 minutes to run away with the game.
Artell explained to the club’s official website: “I received an email from the Crawley manager and although the contents will remain private it was complimentary.
“It was the first time in my career that I’ve received an email from an opposition manager and it was nice to receive. Gabriele was a good guy and I suppose he is when he got three points like that! It might have been different if we had won 5-1 like we should have don.
“I also had a phone call from a manager in our league who watched the game after seeing the score and he said he had to call me because he didn’t believe what he was seeing. He couldn’t believe that we hadn’t won the game.
“I can sit it and say how terrific the performance was but the result was the result and that is the most frustrating thing. I think I am honest in my assessment of games and when we are poor I will say so.
“I did that at Colchester when we were awful, more recently at Northampton. I will tell you and on Saturday we were good but we have to be more ruthless.”
