Artell: "It Was Only A Matter Time With Callum"

22 November 2018

David Artell is convinced that youngster Callum Ainley is going to recapture his best form after opening his goalscoring account for the season with a well taken brace against Tranmere Rovers at the weekend.

Ainley, 21, inspired the Railwaymen to a thoroughly deserved 3-2 victory to end a run of four defeats on the bounce. The club’s Academy graduate also created the third goal for Charlie Kirk on the other side as Crewe jumped up to 15th in the table.

The Alex boss told the club’s official website: “Callum was terrific against Tranmere but we were not surprised because he is a good player, a very good player.

“He has had a tough time of it but he has never moaned or complained. He has just got his head down and got on with it.

“We know he has it in him to influence games like he did on Saturday. Now it is up to him to keep that form going, to keep being effective and then take those next big steps where he is creating and scoring goals in most games.

“He is a great talent and he just has to sustain that and be more consistent. He has done that already in the first-team, so we know he has it in him.”
