Perry Is The Example To All Our Young Players Trying To Make The Grade

17 May 2018

Hard work and desire set by Ng is an example to all our aspiring young players says boss.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has hailed the progress made by defender Perry Ng this season and says that he is a shining example of what can be achieved with the right application.

Ng made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, chipping in with four important goals as well. His appearance tally would have been even higher had it not been for two suspensions, following the first red card of his career against Newport County in August and then for off-the-ball incident away at Cambridge United in December.

Ng was banned for four games as we entered 2018 for violent conduct after a panel viewed video evidence.

Artell is aiming to reward the former Academy graduate with a new and improved contract this summer.

The Crewe boss said of the Liverpool-born defender: “Perry is the perfect example to any of our young players coming through. He has shown what can be achieved if you work hard and work at your game.

“I would like to reward him with a new contract for that hard work if possible. He has a year to run on his current deal but he deserves a new one.

“Perry was not what we regarded as a high flier when he was coming through. He wasn’t a superstar or a cert at the Academy. He wasn’t like Nick Powell when everyone in the building could see he was going to make it.

“Powelly had natural ability but still had to work hard to make it as a professional footballer because it is tough. Perry has ability, but he has worked hard to improve. He works his socks off and you have to because it is a tough business and as a footballer, you are self-employed.

“When you see one of our kids come through and take their chances like that, it probably gives you even more pleasure.

“He has that right attitude to make it. He is from Merseyside and I’ve always said that they have that burning desire to make something of themselves.

He added: “If he keeps going the right way, then Perry can have a fantastic career ahead of him. “
