Artell: "Accolade Is for The Academy Staff & The Parents"

11 May 2018

David Artell believes that being named as the EFL manager of the week for guiding his homegrown XI to a 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town on the final day of the season belongs to the Academy staff at the Football Club.

Artell was honoured by the personal accolade by the Football League for once again naming a starting eleven made up totally of Academy graduates, but Artell stressed that it was not an individual award for him.

David told the club’s official website:  “I wasn’t aware that I had been selected as manager of the week in the EFL. I’ve never been interested in personal awards or accolades in my career. It is a team game and this award is for the Academy staff and for their parents really. They are the ones that have helped those players come through.

“This is for the Academy XI and for what they have achieved to come through the system. I have always said that this is arguably the best place for young players to realise their dream of becoming professional footballers, but they have to work extremely hard to make it.”
