12 March 2018

The Chronicle

CHARLIE Kirk’s 97th minute header rescued a vital point for Crewe Alex at Stevenage on Saturday.

The second-half substitute got onto the end of a Harry Pickering cross in the dying seconds to send the travelling supporters into raptures.

It completed a recovery from 2-0 down after a Dean Bowditch double put the home side in command.

Perry Ng’s stunning strike with 10 minutes left got them back into it, and Kirk finished the job.

Crewe are 18th in League Two.

Stevenage suffered injury-time agony after Crewe Alexandra equalised in the 97th minute of a hard-fought 2-2 draw at the Lamex on Saturday afternoon.

The draw was harsh on Boro despite Crewe refusing to give up at down 2-0 midway through the second half after a brace from Dean Bowditch put the home side 2-0 in front of 2,082 fans.

Boro, occupying 15th place in League Two hosted the visitors four places and six points behind looking for a win to push up the table in what has been an inconsistent season laced with promise and hope, disappointment and despair.

It was a tough draw to take at the Lamex as Crewe Alexandra came back from two goals down in the second half, to level the score.

A brace from loanee Dean Bowditch put the Boro comfortably ahead, but the visitors responded in the second half with goals from Perry Ng and Charlie Kirk.
