Ken Mulhearn 1945-2018

14 March 2018

We are all deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former goalkeeper Ken Mulhearn at the age of 72.

The Liverpool-born goalkeeper made 95 starts for Crewe Alexandra after joining the club from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 1980. He was the perfect replacement at the time for a certain Mr. Bruce Grobbelaar, who had returned to Vancouver White Caps in Canada. Ken played two seasons at Gresty Road before ending his long and successful career in 1982.

Mulhearn began his career at Stockport County before moving to Manchester City in 1967 where he helped the club in the First Division title in his first season.

He moved to Shrewsbury Town in 1971 and was a key part in their Third Division winning team of 1978/79. He is fondly remembered by all Shrews after a decade of great service for the club.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Ken at this difficult time.
