James Jones is set to make his long awaited return to competitive this afternoon as Crewe Alexandra’s Under-23s are set to host Birmingham City at the Alexandra Stadium. The game has been switched to the main ground due to the rainy weather and Jones is hoping to step up his own recovery with some game time against Blues.
The club’s Scotland Under-21 International has fully recovered from his knee injury and had asked manager David Artell if he would consider him for the travelling squad to Stevenage last weekend.
Artell felt that the attack-minded midfielder needed game time and he will get that opportunity this afternoon.
Artell told the club’s official website: “Jonah has been out for ten months, so this will be the start of him getting some match fitness under his belt. It is important that he gets some game time before we consider him for the first-team again.
“We spoke last week and he wanted to be on the bench for the Stevenage. I like that attitude, but he really needs to play because he hasn’t kicked a ball this season.
“There is a run of three Under-23 games coming up, so we will see how he is after that. “
