Boss: "Hopefully Fine Margins Will Go In Our Favour For A Bit"

12 March 2018

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell is hoping that his side are beginning to be on the receiving end of a few of the finer margins that can make a massive difference in games.

If you take Saturday’s opponents Coventry City when we lost 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena back in late September, we were on the receiving end of a bizarre sequence of events. A clearance from Zoumana Bakayogo was blocked by Jodi Jones and possession rebounded favourably back into the winger’s path via the corner flag. Jones rolled it over to Dunkens Nazon to slot home the only goal of the game.

Artell told us: “Hopefully we are getting on the right side of those fine margins now. We certainly have been on the wrong side of them on a number of occasions this season!

“Hopefully, that is changing for us and we can keep it going. I think the mindset is better. If we were 2-0 down earlier in the season then we would have found it very difficult to come back.

“When we were 2-0 down on Saturday, we continued to do the right things. We continued to pass the ball and the response was much better. We came back at Lincoln and we have come back again.

The boss added: “I know it is easy to talk in hindsight but I have been thinking for a while that our form would improve because we have been playing well. I think anybody who has seen us over the last five, six games would say we have been unfortunate not to have picked up even more points than we have.”
