Crewe Alexandra youngster Callum Ainley sparkled once again on Tuesday evening. His skill and willingness to take on opposition defenders made him a nuisance to the Forest Green back-line all evening. He had a hand in two of our three goals and his memorising runs in the build-up to our second and third goals on the night certainly caught the eye.
Artell was again hugely impressed with Ainley’s impact on the game, and has reiterated that he will do everything in his power to convince him to extend his stay here with us.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Callum is a very good player. We all know the ability he has. He is ready to go on and play higher? We don’t think so, not yet. That is why we want him to stay and continue his development with us. We want to keep hold of him.
“We want him to stay and continue to progress. He is not far off but there is still room for improvement. For example, he knows he can score more goals but he is a young lad certainly going in the right direction.
He added: “We will continue to talk to him and his agent and hopefully we will get some positive news on that.”
