Young Players Have Got To Remain Patient And The Right Move Will Come

6 June 2018

Kenny Lunt is delighted that a host of the club’s younger players have committed their long-term futures this summer, but he stresses that we would never stand in their way if the right move at the right time came along.

Lunt, a former Academy graduate himself, was rewarded with a move to Sheffield Wednesday after a decade of service to the Crewe first-team and he says that the club’s potential starlets have just got to remain patient.

Kenny admitted to the club’s official website: “There are two or three who are not far off being ready. I don’t think it will be too long before interested clubs come back asking about our young players. We have some talented players but they have to go to the right club at the right time.

“They all have some improvement to make. They can all score more goals and provide more assists and that is what we will be on to them about. I’m sure if they can do that then when January comes around or next summer then we will be open to offers, if the time is right,

“Hopefully, in January we will be looking to turn them down because we are pushing for promotion, but the young players here know that we won’t stand in their way if its right.

“Now we have to deal with agents telling them they are ready or whatever and I think some of them do that just so they can get themselves a pay day in the process. I just tell them that I see them every day in training and ask them to show me their coaching badges!”
