Walker: "Last Season Was A Great Learning Curve For Me"

8 June 2018

Brad Walker says that his first season in a new environment was tough as times, especially as the 22-year-old was also starting a young family away from his north east roots.

The midfielder is currently undergoing his summer work to make sure he gives himself the best chance of hitting the ground running when the players return on a full-time basis at the end of the month.

Walker, who has played in central midfield, centre-back and right-back since joining us from Hartlepool United last summer is determined to give his Crewe career his best shot.

Brad told ifollow the Alex: “Hartlepool was on my doorstep and everything came easy, but I moved here on my own, my missus was pregnant, it was my first time living away and I did find it difficult.

“People say ‘ah he’s a footballer and he lives a perfect life’ but it’s not, it’s hard. Well, I found it hard. I’ve definitely learned from it.

“But I’ve never thought about going back, I’ve got to prove a point. The gaffer signed me to play in his team and I only managed to play 30-odd games. I have to nail down my own position.”

He added: “The gaffer has been brilliant really. He pulled me out of the team and explained why, and it was fully understandable. I’ve just got to do everything I can to get back in that starting 11 come August.

“I’ll be glad to get a full pre-season under my belt. I think as soon as I’ve nailed down a position people will see a lot more from me.”
