Brad Walker has provided an insight into what the summer programme entails for the Crewe players. Walker and his teammates are requested to participate in at least seven summer sessions to make sure they continue to tick over with their fitness level.
Much depends on how many games they played last season, if they are returning from injury or are working on their strength and conditioning.
Walker, 23, who missed most of the back end of last season, is one player who has been determined to use the sessions to give himself the best possible chance of forcing himself into the manager’s first-team plans. The former Hartlepool youngster has been working tirelessly this summer in a bid to return in much better shape.
Brad told us: “We are coming in twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursday really to keep things ticking over. You do look forward to a break but I want to give myself the better chance I can.
“You do some running, some gym work with your legs and with your upper body but we also do a bit of football. It is important not to lose the feel of the football over the summer. It is nice to get back into it.
“It is a massive time for me. I will be glad to get a full pre-season under my belt, because that is something I didn’t have last season with trying to sort out the move here.
“I want to be raring to go in pre-season and this all helps because my aim will be to get back in the starting eleven.”
