Chris Porter believes that the decision of the club’s promising youngsters to re-sign this summer has given everyone an almighty lift in the dressing room. Porter, 34, has made over 500 career appearances for 10 different clubs and he has been impressed with the talent contained in the Crewe dressing room.
Porter says that with the likes of Harry Pickering, Tom Lowery, Callum Ainley, Lewis Reilly, Charlie Kirk and James Jones all committing their futures this summer, it only enhances our chances of enjoying a successful season.
Porter, who hit 12 goals during his debut season for the club, told us: “The young lads have stayed on and we have also been able to sign Shaun (Miller) and Greenie (Paul Green) on permanent deals. It is looking good for next season.
“The younger lads’ signing has given everyone a boost and it was massively important for us. They are good players and they have another year of experience under their belts. They will only benefit from that and from having more experienced players like Shaun and Greenie around them. I’m sure they will help them on and off the pitch, like we all do.
“The young lads remind me of what happened when I was at Colchester. They brought some of their own lads through; they acquired the experience playing in the first team and improved.
“It is what this club is all about and it was nice to see them re-sign towards the end of the season.”
