Pickering: "Confidence Is Growing"

11 June 2018

Crewe Alexandra youngster Harry Pickering says that the confidence has been growing in the camp for a while.

Pickering is hoping to that the momentum we managed to build up in the last few months of the season into the new campaign and hit the ground running come August. Crewe ended the season with three straight victories and with an encouraging run of six wins from the last nine games to finish in 15th place.

19-year-old Pickering also enjoyed a productive season, scoring four goals from his 40 appearances in his first real full season. The Academy graduate also showed his versatility by operating at left-back, on the left hand side of midfield and in central midfield when asked by manager David Artell.

Pickering told crewealex.net: “We ended the season well and had been on a good run for a while. We now have to keep that going in pre-season and then into next season. The confidence has grown massively and if we can keep that going and perform like we can most weeks then who knows what we can achieve next season.

“You never know what can happen but we feel as though we have a good squad coming together and with the confidence we have in the squad, we feel we can be a lot more competitive.

“It makes a massive difference when you are on a good run. You grow in confidence and everyone is happy and buzzing around the place. It is good.

He added: “I don’t think last season could have gone any better for me. I’ve played more games than I thought I would and got some goals. It is always positive to score and make goals.”
