David Artell is expecting a conversation with Perry Ng and his agent in regards to his favourite position. The highly rated Crewe defender played most of his football at right-back last season, but also impressed when switched to his preferred position of centre-half or in a central midfield position. Ng’s versatility is certainly a string to his bow but Artell believes that his long-term future could well rest at centre-half.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I would think that when we sit down with Perry and his agent about his future, we will sit down and talk about his position. It was part of our conversation last time, and I would think it will be the same this time.
“He has done well in every position we have asked him to play. I see his long-term future at centre-half. That is where he will end up eventually. To play there in the Championship or higher at this stage of his career would be a very tough ask.
“He is still learning the game and gaining invaluable experience playing week-in, week-out. He knows that his first aim will be to make sure he is in the Crewe team every week because there is strong competition for places.”
